Africa Regional Consultation of the Global Research Council

The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa have been competitively selected as co-hosts of the Africa Regional Consultation of the Global Research Council (GRC). The Regional Consultation, in parallel with four others taking place around the globe, has as its primary aim to facilitate and coordinate deliberations and input on the main themes identified by the GRC Governing Board for the 2016 meeting (Equality and Status of Women in Research, and Interdisciplinary).

For the African Consultation, NCRST in partnership with the NRF, will host the African Regional Consultation under the overarching open forum, GRC African Summit with valuable support from DFG. We aim to construct a strategic and value-added programme through representation of allscience granting councils in Sub-Saharan Africa, including dedicated and focused discussion, a high-level open panel meeting, and an academic symposium to encourage scholarly debate and strengthen partnerships between African and German scientists. These engagements will inform the 2016 GRC meeting to ensure a true African voice at this increasingly influential meeting.

The NCRST is planning to host this momentous event at the Namibian coastal town of Swakopmund in the Erongo region on 16-17 November 2015 at the Strand Hotel.
