National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST)

NCRST is the Namibian host of the GRC African Summit, and the country’s national agency on research and development, the NCRST is responsible for the co-ordination, monitoring and supervision of research, science and technology in Namibia. The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology was established in terms of section 4 of the Research Science and Technology Act, and is a State Owned Enterprise that reports administratively to the Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation.

National Research Foundation (NRF)

The NRF, co-host of the GRC  African Summit, was established through the National Research Foundation Act (Act No 23 of 1998). As an independent government agency, the NRF promotes and supports research in all fields of knowledge. It also conducts research and provides access to National Research Facilities. The NRF provides services to the research community especially at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Science Councils with a view to promote high-level human capital development. The NRF aims to uphold excellence in all its investments in knowledge, people and infrastructure.

DFG: German Research Foundation

The DFG is the self-governing organisation for science and research in Germany. It serves all branches of science and the humanities. In organisational terms, the DFG is an association under private law. Its membership consists of German research universities, non-university research institutions, scientific associations and the Academies of Science and the Humanities.

 

The DFG receives the large majority of its funds from the federal government and the states, which are represented in all grants committees. At the same time, the voting system and procedural regulations guarantee science-driven decisions.
